ITEM: Siemens SMB-2 Processor for the MXL-IQ Addressable Intelligent Fire Alarm System.

THESE SIEMENS SMB-2'S ARE UNLOCKED FOR SPEEDY REPROGRAMMING. IF YOU ARE NOT AWARE ON HOW TO REPROGRAM A SIEMENS SYSTEM, THEN KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY FROM OTHERS. READ BELOW!!!

1. The Siemens CSGM / MXL Software is Proprietory to Siemens. If you are wanting to reprogram a used SMB-2 / MMB-1 / MMB-2 / MMB-3 (assuming from other sellers here on ), then you need to have a Siemens Dealer/Distributor provide a letter to the Siemens factory on end users letterhead indicating that you wish transfer programming status and indicating a release of liability.

2. This is not an easy letter to get signed, because it releases prior liability of the previous fire alarm provider. Again, Building Owner will need to sign on their company letterhead and give to Siemens Factory (via Siemens Dealer or Siemens Branch). Photo 2 shows a very similar standard release letter, so be prepared to have your customer sign such a form (the one shown may not be the current release letter, but it is VERY SIMILIAR AND HAS SIMILIAR LIABILITY RELEASE LANGUAGE! Tell me, your end user will be happy to sign away their liability on their multi-million dollar building.

3. You can save ALL these steps, and buy an UNLOCKed panel that allows the NEW/CURRENT provider to hook up their Siemens Programming Laptop to allow you to start programming immediately. Of course, you need to extract the program while you have an operational fire alarm, not when its blown up! TOO LATE $$$ ! Time is Money.

4. Since Siemens stopped producing the MXL Panel parts last year, you'd be smart to have a Spare Backup Processor for your fire alarm system all unlocked and loaded with a backup copy of your most updated program. That way, should you ever have your panel fried from a lightning storm, a power surge...etc...that you have a Backup Panel to Plug in and Replace your existing damaged panel.

5. Firewatch is horribly expensive. If you loose your existing panels data (from lightening, power surges, etc.) then many time you can't extract the program from the old MXL Panel...which means that unless you have the technician who has the "latest and greatest" copy of the program....then you have to rebuild and start over. Many times, this means the Fire Marshal will want to do a 100% Fire Alarm Retest (this is probably more expensive that the parts you purchase) if you have to rebuild the program....BUT, if you have a Date/Time stamped backup copy of the panel/program installed in the "spare" you are usually good to go!

6. If you think that is bad enough, if you have Smoke Control (UUKL) on your MXL fire alarm panel...…...add Zero's to the expense. Retesting and Recertifying your smoke control system makes reprogramming the fire alarm look cheap. Many times you need to bring in the building controls contractor (usually on T&M, and they are NOT CHEAP!).

7. If you think the above 6 items are Scare Tactics, they are not. I retired from Siemens Fire and know the drill oh so well. Glean your knowledge from my items above, and speak with others and educate yourself.

TWELVE MonthRefund/Replacement Assurance from FIREALARMPART.COM!This is a PERFECT Spares Unit, because the MMB-2 is NO LONGER AVAILABLE THROUGH SIEMENS. I do have MMB-3 New Processors (at about a 65% Premium to this MMB-2). You choose, but get a spare while you can. When they stop all together making the MMB-3 (they've already stopped producing the MMB-2) then you will be on hard luck getting a replacement Main Mother Board.

NOTES: IF you are a MXL / MXLV / MXL-IQ User, and you don't have a Spares Processor for your fire alarm system....you are like a sitting duck! Getting a replacement board for your system is becoming harder each and every day! The Life Cycle of the MXL System is getting closer to the end, and when they finally stop production of the latest processor (MMB-3) then good luck gettingany processorwhen you need one! Some Fire Deparments are only allowing "like type" service replacementswithout permits...BUT, if you upgrade the processor (MMB-2 to MMB-3) they require pulling a new set of permits, and performing a new 100% System Test. So, if you want to stay away from the grief of doing this, then get a "like type"spare for your existing system. I have MMB-1's (Refurbished), MMB-2's (Refurbished),SMB-2'S (New and Refubished) and MMB-3's (New & Refurbished) in my other sales. You choose...you know the story "an ounce of prevention!".
