Complete & Tested: Pfeiffer TMH 260 Turbo Vacuum Pump w/ TCP 120 Controller:
$1500.00

Description / Item Condition:

For sale is a Pfeiffer TMH 260turbomolecular vacuum pump with accompanying TCP 120 controller, connection /power cables, and TSF 012 automatic vent valve. I acquired this pump system aspart of a retired mass spectrometer from my local university’s surplus. Themass spec had two turbo pumps of which I needed one for my own projects, andthus am offering this second one here.

This pump is in fantastic condition. There is some very minor cosmetic wear on the exterior, and the interior isessentially flawless. The sealing surfaces are in great shape as well; seepictures 3 through 5 for a view of the flanges. The top ISO-100 flange did initially have a very slight mark on it, so I carefully removed the outer casing and meticulously ground and polished the flange to a mirror finish (See picture 3). The only other thing I can mention is some discoloration on the water-cooling hose barbs (see picture 6) from water mineral deposits but that won\'t effect operation in any way.

The TCP 120 controller is a littledifferent than a standard user-interactive controller. It normally sits insideenclosures so it does not have any user interface buttons. However it isremarkably simple to operate; just connect the turbo to the controller, plug the controller in toeither 110 or 220 Volt power, and the controller does the rest. Any additional features such as remote start-up / shutdown, stand-by speed, etc, are handled through a 9-pin auxiliary cable. Pfeiffer was kind enough to make the more advanced functions very straightforward, such as connecting simple switches for stand-by speed and remote start-up, or measuring a 0-10 Volt output to read speed. If you need any help with getting the controller running you can either consult the below manual (which is recommended anyways) or you can contact me and I would be happy to offer any advice.

This controller also has an auto-vent valve installed. When the controller is switched off, it uses the still-spinning pump to power the auto-vent valve. Once the pump slows to 20% it\'s rotational speed, the controller opens the vent valve to add a tiny amount of friction and help slow the pump rotor the rest of the way down.

Manuals for both items can be foundat the following links:

Testing:

Before running this pump I purchasedand installed a brand-new oil reservoir to ensure the pump was not running onold oil. The pump was blanked off, connected to a foreline pump, and poweredup. It quickly spun up, ran very quietly, and had no noticeable vibration. Imeasured the rotation speed with a multimeter hooked up to the controller’sanalog speed readout pins and confirmed the pump successfully reached 100% ratedspeed. (See pictures 11 and 12 to see the pump being tested andspinning up from 47% to 100% rated speed.)

The controller was then switched off,and after the turbo spun down to 20% rotation speed the vent valve openedcorrectly to slow the turbo down the rest of the way. It is worth mentioning thatthe turbo took a full 27 minutes (!) to spin down to 20% rotational speed, whichindicates the pump bearings are still in very good condition.

After polishing the ISO 100 flange the pump was also hooked up to my old reliable Varian helium leak detector to test for leaks (see picture 10). All sealing surfaces and gaskets had helium sprayed all around them, and the leak detector consistently read much lower than 1x10^-8 atm*cc/sec the entire time. In other words all the sealing surfaces and gaskets are working as intended.

Summary:

I really wanted to make this pump stand out from the many typical \"powers up, otherwise untested\" listings one normally sees in high-vacuum equipment listings. I did everything I could in my experience in high-vacuum work to make sure as much as possible is known about this pump before you make your purchase; and to make this a pump I would want to buy myself were I in the market for one. All in all this should be an excellentturbo pump system for whatever vacuum project you are working on.

Shipping Details:

sale is for the TMH 260 turbo pump, the TCP 120 controller, the pump / controller cable, and the controller power cable which includes the TSF 012 vent valve. Items shown in pictures showing the pump in testing such as the ISO blank flange, ISO clamps, hoses, etc are not included. Shipping will be via UPS ground, andwill be insured for the full purchase price. If you would prefer a differentcarrier contact me and I can provide you with a quote. Shipping cost will be inaddition to final sale price. I will also allow returns for 14 days so youcan test things out to your own satisfaction.
