Vintage Johnson No 101 Bench Furnace Cast Iron Gas Forge Blacksmith 1930-1940s:

Vintage Johnson Gas Appliance Co. bench furnace, Model No. 101, constructed of heavy cast iron and designed for natural gas operation.

This compact bench-mounted furnace was used for heating metal in industrial, farm, and workshop environments, including light blacksmithing, brazing, and general metalworking applications. The enclosed chamber concentrates heat while the front platform supports material during use.

The top retains a circular cast manufacturer’s mark reading Johnson Gas Appliance Co. with Iowa location and model number 101. This circular marking style differs from later straight-line castings and is consistent with earlier production examples.

Estimated production period: 1930s–1940s, based on construction, square-head fasteners, gas valve design, and cast manufacturer marking.

Untested.

Shows surface rust and oxidation consistent with age and use. No visible cracks or structural damage to the cast iron body. Interior shows heat discoloration and residue from prior use.

Includes gas valve and attached line assembly; configuration appears older but exact age and originality of components are not verified. Designed for natural gas operation (typical for this model), but has not been tested.

All fittings, valve components, and connections should be inspected prior to any attempt at use.

Due to age, this unit may require cleaning, servicing, or restoration before use. Ideal for restoration, display, or use in light metalworking, blacksmithing, or brazing applications.
