Actual item for a lightly used TrueTime/SymmetricomXL-DC GPS time receiver/timecode generator in good cosmeticcondition. Itis equipped with an upgraded OCXO oscillator. It hasbeen tested for acquisition of GPS Time Sync and forgood GPS Time, Date, Timecode andFrequency outputs.

I believe that this maybe a military variant of the XL-DC clock/FrequencyGenerator/Timecode Source. The main differences are:

Normally the XL-DCdefaults to UTC time and can be set to GPS time asan option. This unit seems to have been ordered withthe time locked to GPS time and I could not find away of changing that (Function 01 is garbled on thedisplay and Function 69 is missing). GPS time is 18seconds ahead of UTC. The fact that the unitdisplays GPS time does not affect the accuracy ofthe disciplined 1PPS,10, 5 and 1 MHz outputs.
I was unable to send and receive datausing the DB9 RS-232 serial port using my test PC'sHyperterminal application. That may indicate thatthe device has been optioned with the RS-422 serial protocolor that hardware flow control is needed, so my PC's 3-wireserial card can't communicate, but I have not explored thisfurther. It may indicate that this capability was notprovisioned at the request of the original purchaser. In any case, all the important parameters for the device areaccessible via the front panel keypad, so the serial I/O isprobably unnecessary for most applications. Pleaseproceed on the basis that the serial I/O port isinoperative.
The unit has a couple of expansion cardsinstalled (86-729-15 and 86-383-5) which I presumeare for a military application. I have not exploredtheir features for lack of available documentation, but I dosee some config options coming up on the front panel so Iassume they are working as they should, but this is notguaranteed.

Theinternal Lithium memory back-up battery has just been replacedso that should not need further attention for some years. BothLCD displays have a backlight; both are bright and even - seephotos which show the actual item for sale.

A basic test antenna is included to get youstarted - so you may need to take both receiver and antennainto the open air to test the device. The Antenna voltage is5V so almost any good quality GPS antenna should work, but tryand have at least 26dB of antenna gain if you want toreplicate my test results. A Symmetricom AT575 type isrecommended and I usually have some listed separately. Rackears are included as shown. So if you're looking for a very affordableGPSDO with a cool display and the time offset isn't a concernthen this may be a very attractive purchase. Alternatively ifyou have a spare XL-DC CPU module and want to try a swap thenit would seem that the OCXO module, chassis, power supply anddisplay boards are all good. Note that there's a littlecorrosion at the right end of the rear panel. Thisappears to have been caused by coming into contact withsomething outside the case and not a leak inside the case -see photo.
