This STARETT #231-F , high precision outside micrometer with a 0-1” measuring range and a fine resolution 0.0001”(0ne ten -thousandth of an inch) via a vernier scale. The -F DESIGNATION INDICATES IT FEATURES A FRICTION THIMBLE designed to provide consistent , repeatable measuring without over tightening. Features easy reading satin finish, no glare and a balanced design. One piece extra rigid spindle, hardened threads. Rigid one piece frame . Quick reading features.

The unit zeros in and operates smoothly. Looks new. No scratches or number indicator marking loss or drop out.

The unit was presented by a master machinist to the seller over 50 years ago and kept away from moisture in a case.

The seller was advised not to tighten pin down but back off slightly after use.

What a great gift or just replace your old worn one or a spare. Hard to find a better example. New sell for $400. The knurled knob has no wear as does the rest of this fine precision instrument.

Though working easily, the seller has left it up to a seasoned machinist to lubricate if they find it necessary. There is no rust, pitting , corrosion and any noticeable wear.
