Description

Fastenio aluminum large flange open-end blind rivets feature an oversized dome head — roughly 1.6× to 2× the diameter of a standard dome head for the same body size. The wider head distributes installation load across a larger area, making these the right choice for thin sheet, soft substrates, oversized holes, and slotted/elongated holes where a standard rivet head would pull through.

Both the rivet body and mandrel are aluminum, so the joint stays light, corrosion-resistant, and free of galvanic mismatch. Stocked in three body diameters — 1/8", 5/32", and 3/16" — with a full range of lengths and pack sizes from 5 (sample) up to 2,500 (bulk).

When to Use Large Flange

Thin sheet metal — the wider flange resists pull-through on sheet thinner than the rivet's body diameter.
Soft substrates — plastic, fiberglass, soft aluminum, thin wood — where a standard head would crush or sink in.
Oversized or slotted holes — the larger flange covers the gap when the hole is bigger than spec or shaped for adjustment.
Signs, panels, and trim — the larger visible head can be either a feature (decorative) or hidden under washers/trim.

Riveting Action

An open-end blind rivet installs from one side of the workpiece. Insert the rivet through pre-drilled aligned holes, then pull the mandrel with a hand or pneumatic rivet tool. As the mandrel pulls, the rivet body deforms on the blind side to form a clinched head; the mandrel snaps off at the breakneck once full installation force is reached. The large flange seats flush on the visible side and spreads the clamp load across a wider footprint than a standard dome head.

Material

Body: 5052 Aluminum — Al-Mg alloy with excellent corrosion resistance, especially in marine and outdoor environments. Strong, ductile, and weldable.

Mandrel: Aluminum — matches the body alloy. No mixed-metal galvanic concern at the fastened joint.

Finish: Plain (uncoated). Surface develops a natural protective oxide layer over time.

Notes

Hole size: drill +0.003" to +0.005" over the rivet body diameter for proper clearance.
Substrate thickness: the large flange is most useful when the back-side material is thin, soft, or has an oversized hole; on rigid thick substrates the standard dome head is usually fine and lower-profile.
Galvanic compatibility: aluminum body + aluminum mandrel is ideal for aluminum or non-conductive substrates. For stainless steel substrates in wet environments, consider stainless rivets.
Tools: any standard hand or pneumatic blind rivet tool will install these — no specialty mandrel grip required.
