I am attempting to build the power MOSEF interfacing circuit (page 8 of http://www.picaxe.com/docs/picaxe_manual3.pdf) and was wondering if the NTE2985 MOSEFT Logic Level N-Ch Enhancement Mode High Speed Switch would serve the same purpose as the IRL520. Thank you very much for your help!

They are both logic level FETs, ie. they will turn fully on with 5V gate-source voltage.
So the NTE will be a replacement if the maximum drain voltage and current you require do not exceed 60V and 30A.
