Will this work?

Need to know it this circuit will work for a light project in my room it uses a tip 31c transistor 12v led strip a 12v power suply and a sub.
I want the sub to make the lights flash but there is not enough power going to the sub to solder it directly to ther led strip.
Will this layout work or does it need changing, the led strip has built in resistors btw.

What is the 'sub' and what does it do?

The "sub" is a Logitech X-530 subwoofer which gives the bass to the music, this is what i want as the "trigger" to make the transister conduct so the leds will flash.

Hope you can understand what i mean.

Yes its a Logitech X-530 5.1 surround sound subwoofer

It is a SPDT switch so the led strip can be on or flash to the music.

The way it's wired is OK but I don't know whether you may need some resistance in series with the base pin of the TIP31 to limit base current. The spec I found for the Logitech unit says its output is 15.5W and the speakers are hardwired to the base unit, so I don't know how you propose to get at its output.

You need to find out what voltage you will be feeding from it into the TIP31.

I purchased the things i need so i guess it is just trial and error from here on for me.
I can get to the "+"and"-" of the subwoofer so i will wire the "+" of the sub to the base,and the "-" to the emitter.
After reading the manual i have it says the subwoofer is "25 watts RMS into 4ohms at 100Hz at 10% THD clipping"
When i get all of the things in the post i will report back to say if it works or not.

Yes Your power suply and a sub is main contected check it first and other wise transistor 12v led strip is perfectly used.
