The problem is that while ‘electronics’ was once a subject covering just audio and radio, it now embraces a vast range of activities and designers now tend to work in specific areas. So it is difficult to point you in a general direction.
I assume that in addition to knowing the basic use of components, you also know the basic laws of electricity (Ohms law, power, how capacitors charge through a resistor, etc). If you want to progress, the best way is to decide on an application, and then look at other people’s circuits to see how they designed them. If you click on ‘Return to circuits page’ at the top of this forum you can select from a large variety of different circuits. The Internet is also a good source. For example, just Googling for ‘timer circuits’ will give you dozens of circuits to chose from. Wherever possible, read the descriptions given and you will soon get an idea how these circuits were put together.
Manufacturers data sheets for ICs often give a lot of information that describes how to use them. This is especially so for ICs, and in most case there is enough information available to show you how to design the circuit that the IC forms part of.
