Plastic safety glasses ok for laser protection?

6-7 years ago I bought a handheld red laser pointer. Its a toy really - 650nM, Class II, <1mW. I'll be using with my granddaughter in conjunction with a toy optics kit, that I assume may magnify the beam. What eye protection will we need?

I checked the web, but the classification scheme has changed and it not clear what my options are.
