First time post, need guidance

Hello to all!
Please let me start by saying I'm sorry if I have made any stupid mistakes and my schematic is not the best, but I'm new to the electronic world (2 weeks only), I bought myself an arduino uno stater kit from sparkfun and as they say the rest is history, I have been bitten by the electronic bug and all I can think now is how to incorporate it in to everything I do!
I have attached a simple schematic of what I think I could do to control a dc motor with my arduino uno. Looking forward to comments.
