First Project - Multi-Charger

Hi Guys and Girls

I have decided to build a multiple usb charger for the gadgets I have around, a nexus 7, galaxy s3 and an original kindle.

Basically I plan to build a platform out of foam and have the devices charge from a powered usb hub.

What I would really like to do is have some kind of led illumination to show the charge status of each device.

This is where I am stuck! Is there a way of getting the charge status from a usb cord? I have a battery charger that has an led which changes colour when a battery is charged which I have taken apart to have a look, this also includes an usb output for charging, however the indicator only works when a battery is used with the charger, not from the usb port.

All the devices charge from mini-usb.

Does anyone know if this is possible?
