Need help designing piezoelectric shock wave circuit.

As a hobby research project I need help designing a piezoelectric shock wave circuit to see if I can improve the efficiency of a miniature pulse jet using piezo crystals. This type of tech is used in shock wave generators used to blast kidney stones into pieces and other none invasive medical procedures. Unfortunately, I cannot find any useful information about how the circuits are designed. What I do know is that they usually use a power source to charge a big capacitor which dumps that energy through a piezo crystal causing a sudden expansion and contraction which produces the shock. I have a picture but I need it explained to me is someone is willing to do it.
