Hello,
I am attempting to dim EL wire using a premade PWM circuit that I purchased online from Amazon here.
For those who don't know, to power EL wire an inverter must be used. This inverter takes DC input voltage and converts it to an AC signal output that excites the phosphorous in the EL wire causing it to glow. My question is should I place the PWM unit before or after the inverter (So, should I modulate the DC or AC signal?).
I attempted both of these in my circuit. Modulating the DC signal (before the inverter) resulted in dimming but only with about 5 degrees of the potentiometer's range of motion. The rest of the range of motion was either completely on or completely off. Modulating the AC signal (after the inverter, directly before the EL wire) led to no light from the EL wire.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated, Thanks very much!
