Need help with simple circuit 3V -> 5V

Postby djfletch42 » Wed Apr 01, 2015 7:45 pm

Hello!

I am working on modifying a circuit board that I don't have full specs on. I'm trying to drive a simple switch on a valve that needs a 5V DC signal to open. The circuit board I'm working with puts out a +3V DC signal. I have access on the board to 5V as well. I need to build a simple circuit to supply 5V to open the valve when the board is putting out 3V and then drop back to 0V when the circuit board puts out 0V. I'm struggling to figure out the simplest way to do this. I was hoping to find a simple IC that would accept the 3V signal as an input and with VCC connected to 5V would put out 5V when the input went up to 3V, but I've managed to get myself very confused.

I apologize for asking what is likely a very simple question, but would be grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks!
Dan

This should work. Since you didn't include any current spec on the solenoid I didn't put any component values in.
