Newbie SMD confusion ????

Postby Happy_Jock » Mon Oct 21, 2013 1:17 pm

Hi folks

I have a few small Fm transmitter circuits I am keen to build in Surface mount to reduce the size. I have read a little into SMD and understand there are different sizes etc.

Silly as it may sound I am very confused if when building a schematic using Surface mount, are the exact same value of SMD components used which are described in the TH schematic, OR is it necessary to change the value of certain components when using SMD in a circuit.

or put another way if I wanted to build a TH schematic in Surface mount, do I just use the same value of surface mount, or is their some kind of value or performance difference due to size?

any help would be much appreciated and unblock this awkward blob on my road to advancing to smd

cheers

What's a 'TH' schematic?

See Talking Electronics Voyager MkII for a surface-mount FM transmitter
