Looking to do some learning

Hello,
I am having trouble finding a good tutorial for designing ciruits with microcontrollers. I have read alot and looked at a many schematic from hobbyists that are designed around PIC16,18 and 24 chips. I really don't understand how the circuitry around it. I have a background in electronic troubleshooting but have been working out of it (computer programming) for a few years. I am now jumping back into electronics, more into designing. I am refreshing myself on basic electronics (diodes, caps, transistors and such) but would really like to get a hold of some good tutorials about microcontroller circuitry design tutorials. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
