power supply comparison help

Postby gary2 » Tue Sep 11, 2012 1:27 pm

The reason I'm here is to double check on the specifications compatibility of two power supply's before I spend my money.

I have a six year old LaCie external hard drive unit with a failed power supply. The original power supply has been discontinued. LaCie offers a replacement power supply for sale but the power output specifications don't match the original. I hope that someone can give me a definitive answer to buy or not buy or point me toward somebody who can help me.

The original power supply:
AC Input: 110V / 220V
DC Output: 12V 2.2A 26.4W / 5V 2.0A 10W

The replacement power supply:
AC Input: 110V / 220V
DC Output: 12V(3A) / 5V (4,2A)

Thanks in advance for your help.

The voltage ratings of both are the same.
The new one has a higher current capability, but as you hard drive will only take the current it requires, the new one you propose will be quite OK.
