Help for Half Bridge Driver

Postby yasinji » Thu Jan 02, 2014 2:59 pm

In my Solenoid driver project I an using IRS2304S half bridge driver to drive solenoid as my input voltage is below 20V and IR2304 works from 10-20V. I have a requirement to operate solenoid from 4V/5V to 25V input. So I am looking for a half bridge driver which can operate from 5V-25V with logic section compatible to IRS2304S. Please help me in finding.. I have searched a lot and went vein so I am seeking professional help. Please help..Datasheet attached for reference

Is your problem only that the IC cannot handle your 5V -25V input logic? ie. is the output OK?

Yes. The output is ok. The IC operating supply voltage is between 10-20V. The supply voltage is derived from a capacitor which is charged from battery. When battery power is not there my supply will start reducing from 18V to 10V. I am using a 470uf*2no. of capacitor so as my understanding is the discharge time will be ((470uF*2)*(18-10))/(5mA). 5mA is my discharge current and I am getting only nearly 2 sec. I want to increase this 2 Sec to atleast 5Sec. For that I added one more 470uF capacitor and thinking to raise the 18V battery to 24V and selecting a half bridge driver that can operate from 24V to 4V so that I will get ((470uF*3)*(24-4))/5mA = 5.64Sec. I am not sure I am thinking in the right direction. Please help..

You did not mention anything about timing in your first post. You mentioned driving a solenoid with 5V to 25V, and I assumed that was the voltage applied to the input of the IC. What, exactly, are you trying to do?

I want to open the solenoid if over current happens and close the solenoid back if current is normal. When it is open it is continously high to one side and low on other side and when it is close its reverse. There is no switching.

I cannot understand you. You cannot get over current in a solenoid. For any given voltage the current in the coil will be proportional to the resistance of the windings (Ohms law).

It would help if you post your circuit.

I am not measuring the current in the Solenoid. The Solenoid is only switching on and off. I am measuring the current in the line using some sensing CT.
If current exceeds we have to switch the solenoid.

The component values in your circuit are far too small to read, and there is not enough detail to see what you are trying to do.

If you can give precise details of what is wrong with the circuit as it is, and much more detail about how the over current sensors are connected, then I might be able to offer something. But it does seem an elaborate setup just to switch a solenoid.

Incidentally, you have given no details of the solenoid - neither its voltage nor current.
