Router is a device which connect two or more computer or network connection like LAN or WAN. Router is using in a networking which is used for to sending and receiving the data via packet.

A router is an electronic device that captures signals transmitted from the network. Router to determine where signals need to go. Each of the input signal is called a data packet. The package contains the address that the router uses to direct the signals correctly. A router interface can have many links to different physical networks.

A router may create or maintain a table of available routes and their conditions and use of this information with algorithms of distance and cost to determine the best route for a given package. A router is connected to at least two networks, usually two LAN or WAN or LAN and its ISP network. To direct the packet router can exchange information with other routers through routing protocols and the use of this information creates and maintains a routing table, or these tables can be defined as fixed links within the router.

A router is a device that intercepts electronic signals on a computer network. The router determines that the signals have to be made. Each received signal is called a data packet. The packet contains address information that the router uses to forward the signals properly. When multiple routers are used in a large collection of networks, exchange of information routers, so that each router can build a reference table showing the preferred path between two interconnected systems. A router can have multiple interface connections for various types of physical network (eg, copper cable, fiber optics or wireless transmission). May contain the firmware of the rules of different network protocol. Each network interface device is specialized to convert computer signals to a standard protocol to another.

Internet router is an essential one of network devices, routers, is a segment to connect multiple networks or network equipment, it can be between different networks or data segment to "translate"to make them To each other, "read"to understand each other's data, so as to constitute a larger network. A typical router has two major functions, namely, data path functions and control functions. Data path functions, including forwarding decision, forwarding the backplane and output link scheduling, usually done by a specific hardware; control functions typically implemented in software, including the exchange of information between adjacent routers, system configuration, system management, etc. .

To explain the concept of a router, the first to introduce what is routing. The so-called "routing"refers to data from one place to another place behavior and action, and the router, it is the implementation of this action machine behavior, which the English name for the Router. The basic function of the router as follows:
First, the network interconnection: router supports a variety of LAN and WAN interfaces, mainly for the interconnection of local area network and wide area networks, different network communicate with each other;
Second, the data processing: including packet filtering, packet forwarding, priority, multiplexing, encryption, compression, and firewall functions;
Third, the network management: routers, including router configuration management, performance management, fault management and flow control.

Hello,
Routers are basically equipment used to connect different networks. Even a small home LAN can require the use of a router to connect, for example, three computers to access the internet through one of the computers. For this purpose, we can use a router.

Thanks

Router can be for following

1. Restrict network broadcasts to the LAN
2. Act as the default gateway.
3. Move data between networks
4. Learn and advertise loop free paths

Hi.....
A router is a device in computer networking that forwards data packets to their destinations, based on their addresses. The work a router does it called routing, which is somewhat like switching, but a router is different from a switch. The latter is simply a device to connect machines to form a LAN.
How a Router Works
When data packets are transmitted over a network (say the Internet), they move through many routers (because they pass through many networks) in their journey from the source machine to the destination machine. Routers work with IP packets, meaning that it works at the level of the IP protocol.

yes,A router can discover routes through dynamic routing protocols or routes can be configured manually.It is not feasible, or even desirable, for a router to maintain routes to every possible destin,Remember that when a host on one VLAN wants to communicate with a host on another, a router must be involved

A router is a more sophisticated network device than either a switch or a hub. Like hubs and switches, network routers are typically small, box-like pieces of equipment that multiple computers can connect to.

A router can forward ports, a switch cannot. A router can also wirelessly transmit a signal for wireless internet.

The modem is the thing that provides the internet; usually the internet company sets this up in your house. When you plug it into a router, the internet becomes wireless and your devices can pick it up. A bridge is just a wireless signal range extender.

A router is a device that forwards data packets between computer networks creating an overlay internetwork. A router is connected to two or more data lines from different networks. When data comes in on one of the lines, the router reads the address information in the packet to determine its ultimate destination.
Then, using information in its routing table it directs the packet to the next network on its journey. Routers perform the "traffic directing" functions on the Internet. A data packet is typically forwarded from one router to another through the networks that constitute the internetwork until it gets to its destination node.
