How do i use two optical sensors to switch the same switch.

Postby cyangrinmonk » Sat Oct 31, 2015 7:31 pm

Hi,

i need to switch a switch on when one optical sensor sees dark, and then switch it off again when a second sensor sees dark.

I couldn't find anything helpful on the net, but that's probably because i'm an electronics novice and probably not using the right language when searching.

Thanks,

monk

Hi,

Have you thought about what sort of opto sensor you would want to use?

OK, cyan-------,
I'll draw up a suitable circuit for you in the next couple of days.

I'm just about to draw up a circuit for you, and realized the opto couplers you suggested will not act as sensors in the way you want them to. I suggest using light dependant resistors (LDRs) instead, if you agree.

What voltage would you like to use to power the unit?

What sort of device do you want to switch on? Do you know how much current it requires?

Hi Pebe,

sorry i don't check in often been busy, thanks very much for your kind offer to draw up the circuit.

It won't require much power, probably switching no more than 7-10 watts with limits of 18V and 2A (my bench PSU max output).

I think before you put in the effort of drawing up the circuit i should do some testing to get exact power requirements.

Thanks again,

cyan.

Optical and magnetic sensors are used to detect the presence, absence, or motion of an object.[img][http://m.eet.com/media/1075223/0307feat2fig1.gif/img]
