Looking for a SIMPLE Wireless Motion Sensor build/schematic

Postby kremzeek » Mon Feb 13, 2012 8:31 pm

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to these forums and was hoping to get some help. I'm looking to build a Wireless Motion Sensor in 2 parts:

1. Motion Sensing Transmitter - Likely a PIR that will sense movement, and transmit a signal to a receiver
2. Receiver - simply blink an LED when motion is sensed.

The typical scenario in which you would use something like this would be to let you know when someone is about to walk in a room, when there are animals in your backyard, etc.

I've searched the internet and these forums and I've found similar posts with bits and pieces of answers, but have not found a complete schematic or wiring diagram. The closest thing I found is:

1. http://cre.ations.net/creation/a-tiny-w ... ion-sensor (posted about 5 years ago!) and,
2. http://www.instructables.com/id/Wireles ... th-a-wire/

I'm hoping someone can help me put together a complete schematic with a parts list to actually get this project done. It does not need to be exactly like the links above, but I'd prefer to do this as a real electronics project and not as a "hack a wireless doorbell" like in link #2.

Reading through the first link, I see he's using a PIR connected to an HT12E Remote Control Encoder IC, connected to a TX433 to transmit a signal. The receiver is an RX433 with a battery and piezoelectric speaker. In the 2nd link, he's connecting the PIR to transistor and wiring that to the doorbell's switch. I just wish he had a wiring diagram to clearly show how to put it all together.

Is it possible to connect a PIR straight to a TX433 transmitter, and an LED to the RX433 receiver? Do I need an IC? If yes, would it be better/simpler to use a transmitter/receiver with a built-in IC, like: http://www.rentron.com/remote_control/TXLC-XXX-LR.htm and http://www.rentron.com/remote_control/RXLC-434LR.htm ? (It does seem cheaper to go with their "TWSA-4-Bit-Pack": http://www.rentron.com/remote_control/T ... t-pack.htm .)

What is this the SIMPLEST way to do this?

Thanks in advance!

The Rentron equipment appears to have an output for 'signal present', which means you would not need a modulator and demodulator - you could just use the motion detector to turn the transmitter on and off.

A possible alternative, but with less range, would be a garage door opener like this.

The buttons on the handset work microswitches so would be easy to adapt. I bought a similar one as a replacement when I lost the original transmitter handset, and it is giving good service. They are available in three types of operation, ie. the closure of the relay contacts can be latching, toggling or momentary. Should you decide to get one, you would need the momentary type.
