Audio Frequency range reactive EL wire

Postby andyellison » Mon May 02, 2011 5:40 pm

Hello,

I am a hobbyist electrical tinkerer at most. I am interested in learning as much as I can and have a basic knowledge. My room mate and I are trying to make our coffee table sound reactive. We have 3 colors of EL wire that we want to feed an audio signal directly into and have the lights brighten to the beat of the song. BUT we would like the device to filter the audio and only light up the EL wire for certain frequencies. (3 colors, white orange and blue, Ideally bass would light up blue, mids white and highs would be orange) The EL wire only works on AC power and requires an inverter, and 12V DC to work....We have some ideas on how it would work but not being engineers we can only speculate. Could anyone point me to a diagram (I'm pretty sure I can bread board from one) that would show us how to split a weak audio signal into 3 ranges and then amp each of the ranges to 12V in order to light up the EL during these frequencies only? Thanks so much.
